Week 7

What we have been up to…

This week has been our busiest week yet in Year 1! We have learnt two new sounds ‘ey’ and ‘eigh’, which both sound the same, but look different! We have practised reading and writing some words with these sounds, and are now becoming experts.

In English, we have been looking at poetry, and discussing and writing sentences to tell people our opinions on a few different poems. At home you could have a listen to our favourite poem we listened to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imMVL56j9JQ

In maths, we have looked at recognising the difference between equal to, greater than and less than, also learning the symbols for these, and we even introduced number lines towards the end of our week. We have been super mathematicians throughout the half term, but this week especially!

In science, we consolidated our learning all about animals with some fun quizzes! And in geography we learnt about the city we live in, Manchester. We talked about the two Manchester football stadiums, the town hall and lots of the shops and restaurants we have been to before in the city.

Friday has been a particularly exciting day at Moss Park, as it has been our Diwali day! We have made our own clay divas, created some Rangoli patterns and even learnt how to do Diwali dancing! In 1 Beech we also had our final forest school session, where we were lucky enough to toast marshmallows around fires that we made ourselves. What an amazing end to Autumn 1! Well done everybody for all of your hard work this half term.
