Week 5
Year 1 Ash
This week, Christmas has arrived in Year 1 Ash! We made some beautiful paper chains and snowflakes to decorate our classroom.
In English, we have been studying the poem ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Wright, and we even created our own short list poems about what we would put into our magic boxes. We thought of some amazing adjectives to describe our objects too!
In maths, we have been superstars at subtraction, using part whole models to help us and completing visual subtraction problems by crossing off items when they are subtracted. We also had a look at fact families that include subtraction. For example:
8+1=9
1+8=9
9-8=1
9–1=8
Our phonics sound of the week was ‘ow’ (grow/yellow) and o_e (rose/globe).
We had a lovely session at Forest School and have spent some more time rehearsing our Christmas play. We can’t believe next week is performance week already!
