Week 2

What have we been up to?

In phonics this week, we have been looking at the ‘al’ (walk/chalk), ‘au’ (author/astronaut) and ‘aw’ (yawn/lawn) sounds, and realised that they all sound the same, but just look different! In English we were continuing with exploring and writing instructions. We learnt what an imperative verb is and were able to pick them out of sets of instructions. Imperative verbs are the words in the sentence that tell us what to do. We can also call them bossy verbs. In maths, we have been learning about how addition sums can be represented on tens frames. We have solved lots of addition problems throughout the week, making us just like Polly Problem Solver.

lt was World Book Day on Thursday! We came into school dressed in some wonderful costumes (take a little look at the video below to see some of them) and we spoke lots about our favourite books and books characters. We’ve also had some mystery readers throughout the week, who have read us some really great stories. Thank you to all of the parents who came in and read to us. We may even have a few more mystery readers in store for next week…
