Our Medium Term Planning
This term we will be learning all about 'WILD THINGS!'
We will be reading the story 'Where the wild things are' and exploring the adventures of Max. Our creative curriculum will encourage Reception to immerse themselves in the expressive arts, understanding of the world and the great outdoors. We will continue to develop our story language through 'talk for writing' by creating our very own wonderful wild stories, igniting children's imagination, exploring settings, problems and solutions.
Our engaging sessions outdoors, will involve exploring the school grounds in the eyes of a wild animal, collecting natural things and generating wild words that can used as a stimulus in our Literacy work. We will help our children to hunt for plants, minibeasts under every rock, bush or tree. We will explore wild art using a nature colour collection to describe textures, smell and sounds of a rain forest.
In our specific areas of learning, we will be consolidating what we have learnt so far and extending skills ready for year 1. We will be developing a 'high 5 rule' in writing and celebrating that mistakes help us learn. In Maths we will be extending our addition and subtraction, learning to count in 10's and 2's, therefore, any opportunities to apply this at home will be appreciated.
Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and we cant thank you enough for reading everyday at home, this makes a huge difference to children's attainment, language and writing. Mrs Keogh and Miss Centi will continue to listen to the children read 1-1 every Monday, so please ensure children bring their book to school. Mrs Lavin and I will continue to support, challenge and extend children's reading and comprehension skills, through guided reading and immersing our environment in rich texts and meaningful words to support children's learning. We are very excited to explore our new topic and if you have any suggestions then please pop in and see class teachers.
