This half term we will be diving into our new topic: Blue Planet!
This topic will allow us to be inspired by everything to do with the Ocean - and we will be kicking it off with a WOW day in the first week. On Friday 23rd April children can come to school dressed as anything linked to the ocean! This could be as simple as coming dressed in ocean colours, could be an under the sea creature, pirate, mermaid, surfer or anything else you can think of! We would like the children to be able to tell us how their outfit links to the ocean.
In literacy we will be using the book 'The Fish Who Could Wish' as our Talk 4 Writing story. We will be learning the story and creating actions to go with it as we retell it in our own words. We will be writing simple sentences about the Fish who could wish and the wishes he makes!
In maths we are going to continue to work with number bonds - consolidating number bonds to 5 and challenging ourselves with number bonds to 10. We will try to become whizzes at naming one more and one less than a given number.
As we embrace the topic 'Blue Planet' we will be learning about a range of under the sea creatures and see where the children's fascination takes us! We will also look at how we can keep our ocean healthy and safe and the effects that pollution is having on the wonderful creatures we have learnt about. We will focus on the Super Learner 'Eco Eddie' as we create posters and rules to keep the ocean clean and safe.
In class are going to explore the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and experiment with colour, pattern and print in our art work, maths and topic learning.
With Mrs Walsh in the atelier we will be learning about the style of the artist Subhashini Chandramani. She is an Indian artist who uses nature to create wonderful images.
