This half term we will be learning all about penguins and where they live! We will be reading and exploring the story 'Lost and Found' and will continue to develop our language and story telling skills through 'talk for writing'. We will also be celebrating the Lunar New Year and learning all about the different ways it is celebrated across some of the countries in Asia! Take a look below to see what we've been up to so far!
Week 5: This week was a fantastic end to the half term! We began our week learning about the Lunar New year and different countries that celebrate it, we then focused on the traditional celebrations of China. At our creative table we used mixed materials to make lanterns and fans after looking at decorations traditionally used for the New Year. We had a wonderful time learning traditional Chinese dancing using fans, parasols and dragon heads! We would like to thank all parents who brought in treats for our food tasting day, all the children were very adventurous, even trying the seaweed! We had a fun filled week and can't wait to see what excitement next half term will bring! Enjoy the break!
Week 4: A fun-filled week in Reception once again! This week we have been using non-fiction books and the internet to research Arctic animals! We wrote some fact files about our chosen animals as well as having a go at being news reporters! Some children also did a bit of independent writing, writing letters to 'Elsa', 'Anna' and 'Olaf' asking for snow. We think there may have been some magic in the air because on Wednesday we got our wish!
We would like to thank all the parents who were able to attend the stay and play on Thursday, we hope you enjoyed it as much as us!
Week 3: This week in Reception Oak we have been writing wonderful stories! We used our story telling skills from 'Talk 4 Write' to produce some fantastic versions of 'Lost and Found'. In maths we have been building our understanding around length and measuring. We used sticks and cubes to measure things in our environment and order them by their length. We explored ice and were fascinated to see how it reacted to different temperatures. All lots of fun, but by far the most exciting thing to happen this week was the SNOW! We were all so delighted when our outdoor area was transformed into the South Pole and couldn't wait to explore it!
Week 2: This week in Reception Oak we have continued to learn the story 'Lost and Found'. We are so fantastic at telling the story now and nearly ready to write it down! In maths we have been learning different ways to make 10, using objects and numicon. After learning about the many types of penguin there are we had a great time independently creating our own with mixed materials! Another brilliant week in Reception!
Well done to this week's Super Learners!
Week 1: This week had a very exciting beginning! On Monday, when we returned from singing assembly, we found a mysterious trail of snow...it lead us to a box! We were so eager to find out what was in the box and were delighted to find a very special penguin with his favourite book, 'Lost and Found'! We have loved learning and acting out the story and wrote some fantastic sentences in speech bubbles. In maths we have been working on counting two groups to find a total amount using penguins, fish and hats! We were also lucky enough to have a go in the brand new outdoor area, we all agreed it was a LOT of fun! A fantastic start to the new term!
