Reception Elm - Mrs Peters

Welcome to Reception Elm

My name is Mrs Peters and I am very excited to introduce myself as the Reception teacher and Early Years Phase Leader. In class Elm we also have the fantastic Miss Centi and Miss Saleem to help us with our learning. I will be updating this page with important dates and information, as well as photographs and videos capturing some wonderful learning moments. We will cover topics throughout the year and will base our learning around a text. We also plan in the moment and will follow the children’s interests, in order to allow children to be leaders of their own learning. Our classroom is calm and purposeful, creating a relaxed homely atmosphere for children to learn and flourish.

                                                                                             2 Reception Elm Classroom

Guided reading takes place on a Monday with Mrs Peters and 1-1 reading is supported by Miss Centi. 2 or 3 Reading books and library books will be changed on a Monday, however children can change their book as often as they wish to. It is the expectation that reading at home should be at least 3 times a week and reading diaries must be signed.

Parents or Carers are invited into class for for relax and read sessions on Mondays and Fridays for the first 10 minutes of the day. Please feel free to come in and support children for start of the day reading.

Home learning

A home learning task will be sent home on a Friday and can be returned by Wednesday.

Children are expected to read a few high frequency words a week.

School Fund

If you would like to make a donation, please put this in a named envelope and send to school.

Outdoor Learning

We are very lucky to have our very own outdoor classroom and Forest School, where children get to take safe risks, problem solve and learn about their natural environment. It it essential that children get frequent and regular opportunities to explore outdoors, as this supports children’s learning and development.

Please ensure children arrive at school with a warm coat, hat and gloves ready for their outdoor adventures.

Thank you for your continued support
