Welcome to Reception Elm
I hope you have had a lovely time over the summer and I am sure that you are now ready to start the new school year. I would also like to say a warm welcome to the new children and their families that are joining us this year. I am looking forward to working together so that we have a productive and exciting year. Please find below some information before the school starts on the 4th September and we do hope that your child will lead a happy, fulfilling and successful time at Moss Park Infants. Please do not hesitate to come and see me before school if you have any questions or queries. I will give you more details of the curriculum during the information meeting on the 29th September at 5pm-6pm (details to follow)

Transition to School
Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition and build positive relationships with adults and peers. Learning through play will continue to be an integral part of our school day. The children will also work in groups to promote motivated, enthused and eager learners and have opportunities for independent learning time. We welcome children into school at 8.50 am and school ends at 3.20pm. Many children enjoy the security of a parent coming into the classroom with them, but as soon as they have developed sufficient confidence, it is good to allow them greater independence and say a quick goodbye. As a school we promote reading for pleasure and encourage Parents to stay for relax and read sessions on Mondays and Fridays for the first 10 minutes of the day.
Learning about ourselves and the world we live in is a fundamental part of childhood development, especially as pupils start to ask questions about who they are and how they are the same, or different, from others. As such, the start of the academic year - when everybody is getting to know one another, is the ideal time to get stuck into a 'what a wonderful world we live in.’ The environment will be set up to offer real experiences and give children what they already know. This will enable children to make connections with the world, develop a sense of self image and promotes secure personal social and emotional development.
Within this topic, we will be exploring family photographs, places we have visited and we will be creating homes using mathematical vocabulary and problem solving. Please feel free to come and chat to member of staff, talk about family, events and celebrations as we love to share with the children and reflect what they know in the environment.
We have also introduced shooting star home learning books, this will be another way of communicating with school. During our topic we will update our doorway to learning with child centred expression, displaying art, media and samples of writing. Please remember to bring a family photograph so we can use this as a talking point and display this in class all year.
