Meet the Governors

Who we are!

Mrs Natalie Knight

Parent Governor

I am the mother of two children; a daughter who is in Year 2 at Moss Park Infants School and a younger son who will hopefully be attending the school soon. Over the last few years, I have played an active role in the school, volunteering to be involved in school life in different ways.

In my professional life, I have been a public servant for nearly 19 years; undertaking various roles. The last 10 years I have been in senior leadership positions. I therefore have a broad range of skills and experiences on which to draw upon. These include; experience of managing and leading large groups of staff who are both directly and non-directly employed; strategic leadership; the management of senior managers to deliver the strategy; management of large budgets; management of personnel matters and oversight of the delivery by other managers within this field; delivery of performance management targets and drafting and delivering service level agreements; Union engagement; staff development and wellbeing delivery; and partnership working both within the workplace and also with other external agencies, partners or local authorities. This list is not exhaustive and only covers some aspects of my leadership and management skills and responsibilities.

I have dedicated my career to public service, because I truly want to make a difference to the lives of other people. One of the most rewarding periods of my job were the years spent working with young people. I thoroughly enjoyed this work and by doing this, have gained a good understanding of child safeguarding procedures and legislation.

Ms Joss Little

Vice Chair / Co-opt Governor

I am an experienced Human Resources professional, and recently joined Nanoco Group PLC as a key member of the leadership team in the role of HR Business Partner. Nanoco are a world leader in the research, development and large-scale manufacture of heavy metal-free nanomaterials for use in displays, lighting, solar energy and bio-imaging. I have a successful background in leading, motivating, developing and supporting others. I have vast experience of working effectively with senior leaders and stakeholders supporting the development and delivery of strategic and operational service/business goals, in both the private and third sector environment. I am an Associate member of the CIPD and I hold a BA (hons) in Combined Social Sciences from Durham University and an MSc in Human Resource Management from Manchester Metropolitan University. Outside of work I play Rugby for Manchester Ladies and I enjoy travelling with my partner.

MR Adeel Khan

Co-opt Governor

I’ve lived in Stretford all my life and I love being part of this community. In October 2019, an opportunity arose to join on the governing board in a co-opted capacity. With my son recently joining reception I feel as though I can call upon my experiences from my professional career to identify areas of improvement and help develop the future vision for the school. I have excellent communications skills and combined with my calm and collective approach I hope to help the school maintain high standards.

Being involved in IT industry for over 15 years, many of my skills acquired are transferable and I hope to help steer the school to success and strengthen the governing board. I believe that co-opted governors have a special role to play. I would look to work with teachers\governors to help drive the continued improvement needed to provide our children with the best chance of success.

I have a proven track record of managing teams and driving through change in some challenging times. I’m an IT Manager by profession and with my knowledge and experience hopefully it will be ideal for the school as we live in a world where technology is becoming a part of everyday life.

Mr Asif Patel

Co-opt Governor

Being born and raised in Stretford, I have always had a special love for the area. After experiencing travel across the world, from backpacking in Vietnam to the hustle and bustle of New York, Stretford will always be home.

Throughout the years, my experiences have taught me many life lessons. I have gained many social and problem solving skills which along with my Bsc (hons) degree in Business and management with Law, have helped me in building and running my own food business for many years.

From a young age, I have loved being a part of and getting more involved in my local community, to now being part of the board of governors at Moss Park Infant School.

When the time came to choose a school for my eldest child, my wife and I were very impressed by Moss Park infants and there was no doubt that it would be our first choice. My son is now in year 1 and I also have twins that have started at the nursery this year.

I feel a lot of pride in the fact my children go to such an impressive school, and when the opportunity arose to become a part of the board of governors I wanted to seize the opportunity. I aim to be the voice that strengthens the relationship between the school, parents and the local community. I have really enjoyed my experience so far, and I look forward to the journey ahead.

Mrs Charlotte Nixey

Co-opt Governor

I have been a teacher in secondary schools for over 10 years, both in the private and state sector and I am at a stage in my career where I want to make a difference to a larger number of students without moving too far out of the classroom. I am truly passionate about teaching and learning and firmly believe that being a teacher is part of my identity. It is vital that every child has access to a safe, caring and dynamic education and having recently completed my MA with a dissertation focusing on staff wellbeing I believe that upskilling and supporting teachers is the best way to do this. I want to share what I have learned and help staff unlock their own potential. I am reliable, compassionate, personable and approachable and can work effectively with a team to bring about meaningful change.

Having visited Moss Park Infant School recently, spoken to parents on the playground and spent time researching the school I could not be more impressed with the education available to its learners. The value placed on experiential learning and the school environment mirrors my own teaching beliefs and I am inspired by the importance placed on giving students a voice in their own learning. MPI’s commitment to being a Rights Respecting School is the embodiment of this and it is a privilege to work with a school that will empower young people to not be a passive participants in their futures, but create them.

Ms Laura Byrne

Parent Governor

I'm a clinical scientist with a long NHS career behind me.  I worked within engineering, critical care and medical device management before I moved into training of apprentices a couple of years ago. This gave me a greater understanding of education, something I have long wanted to contribute to.

With two children who have a fantastic experience at Moss Park Infants I was keen to offer governance support to our school. Since gaining experience with the board of governors and holding a background in education & healthcare I was ideally placed to take safeguarding lead. I am passionate about STEM subjects and mental well being from any type of exercise, personally I enjoy functional fitness and can regularly be spotted at the Crossfit gym or competing.

I've lived in Stretford for 7 years and feel incredibly proud of our community and school.

Vacancies

We currently have a vacancy for an LA Governor.

Why do schools need Governors?

Schools need more enthusiastic and committed people to step forward as governors. It is an opportunity to have your voice heard and to influence education for the children in your area.

Could you be a Governor?

Being a governor is not difficult but you do need to be committed and interested in doing what is best for the next generation. If you care enough about the children in your community to invest some of your time in their future, get involved as a governor.

What do Governors do?

The governors are responsible for making sure the school provides a good quality education. They set the school aims and policies together with the Headteacher. The Headteacher is responsible for day to day management, but he or she is chosen by the governors and works closely with them.
