Good Morning Everyone!
Today's challenge will be going on a nature scavenger hunt! You can do this in your garden or in the park. Even if the weather is a bit wet, it is still fun to get wrapped up and head outside!
When you find the things on the list, look closely at the detail, if it is a creature you can look at how it moves and travels too.
Have fun!
Wednesday 22.7.20
Good morning everyone! We hope you have enjoyed the challenges so far this week!
Please find today's below!
Observational nature drawings
Can you go on a walk to the park or in to your garden do to some observational drawings? This means looking very closely at the shape, detail and colour of the things you are drawing.
You could collect some lovely things to draw in the garden OR you could take your drawing tools to the park with you! If you can't get outside you could collect some interesting natural things in your home such as fruit and vegetables!
If drawing at home you could put on some relaxing music.
Dont forget to take your time and look closely!

Tuesday 21.7.20
Terrific Tuesday!
This week, if we were in school, we would be winding down and enjoying our final time together before you all move on to year one! So this week we will set one or two activities a day for you to enjoy with your families at home.
Potion making!
Using an old plastic bottle, a jar or a mixing bowl you can make a natural potion!
You could go for a walk in the park to find ingredients for your potion, but make sure you check with your grown ups before picking things up.
Once you have made a potion can you write a list of all the ingredients?
Does you potion smell? What colour is it? Is it thick? Is it smooth? - Write a sentence (or more than one!) to describe your potion!
'It is ...'
'My potion is...'

Monday 20.7.20

This week, were we in school, we would be winding down and enjoying our final time together before you all move on to year one! So this week we will set one or two activities a day for you to enjoy with your families at home.
We hope you enjoy them!
Can you make a nature crown?
You can do this any way you choose - there are lots of ideas online and we have posted some below too!
Maybe you could go on a walk to the park to find bits of nature to add to your crown and draw a picture to design it before you make it!

You can make your own puppet theatre to tell stories

Are they at the..........
They are in the den.

“In strange times, one of the most important things for me is to not lose the ability to play and create. The outdoors provides us all with a wealth of wonder to explore and experience, it is the largest artist studio in the world, and it’s free. Never forget to stop, look, experience and play.” — James Brunt - Artist
We would LOVE you to take part in the BIG outdoor art challenge - getting outside in all weathers is great for wellbeing and learning. Please visit the website below for more details and share any of your creations with us via email or twitter!

Even if you don't want to enter the official competition, you can still get creative in the great outdoors!
Here are some Natural Art ideas to inspire you!

If you made a ladder like this Natural Art? Where would it take you to? If I had a ladder it would take me to a magical castle.

Friday 2.7.20
Happy Friday everyone! We hope you have had a good week!
Most of you will have now accessed the 'Transition page' to find out all about your exciting move to year one - I am going to miss you so much but I know you are going to have an amazing time with Miss Barber and Miss Keogh!
Even though it is a big and exciting move, you can look at all the pictures and videos on the transition pages and talk to your grown ups to help you feel prepared.
Below are some activities and stories to work through together to help you process any feelings or worries you might have.
Can you make a thoughts and questions jar?
With your grown up, write down any questions, worries or thoughts you have about moving to year one on slips of paper. Fold each piece of paper and pop it in your jar or bowl.
Together, you can open up these slips of paper one at a time, you can talk about what you have written down and answer any questions you might have.
Any time you think of another thought or question about school you can pop it in your jar and figure it out together!
Thursday 2nd July
Well done for joining in the virtual sports day yesterday!
It was amazing to see and hear children being Healthy Henry at home.
Can you continue your fitness with a challenge?
Can you estimate how many star jumps you can do in a 30 seconds?
You will need your grown up to time you!
What was your score?
Now ...take a rest!
Can you beat your score?
You can find different ways of moving too?
You can involve your grown up!
(Jumping, skipping, running, hopping)
Can you draw a picture of your sporty action?
Can you write a sentence in your handwriting book?
Here are some examples but you can make your own up.
My mum likes hopping.
My dog likes my skipping.
Don't forget to use your high 5 rule and check your wonderful handwriting.
Can you improve your handwriting by writing the sentence again?
Way to go Reception!
You deserve a healthy snack and a rest!
After lunch you can try these dances if your feeling super fit!
Then time to relax with a sporty themed story

Read 1 book a day (Or more!)

It could be a great place to tell stories...

Make a fairy potion! Remember to check with your grown ups what you can put into it! You could even have a go at writing your fairy recipe down!
I have been hearing more and more birds singing every day! Could you make a bird feeder to put in your garden or outside your window?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/makes/bird-feeder
I wonder if you get any little visitors! Maybe you could find out what they are called and have a go at drawing them?
Make a nature book! Could you fill each page with something you can see in your garden or out of your window?
This week I have seen blossom, birds and a bumblebee!
You could have a go at labelling your picture and if you want an extra challenge write a fact about each thing you have seen! This could be a project to work on over the week.

Painting flowers using forks! Or maybe you could use something else that is not a paint brush?
Could you do an observational drawing of a Daffodil or other flower/plant? Like we practised in the Atelier at school!
Go on a bug hunt in the garden! You could make a bug hunt for someone in your family. What can they find?

Phonics -
You can use the phonics flash cards in your home learning pack to hide around the house and go on a sound hunt! This will help you recap before we focus on one sound today.
Yesterday we looked at the digraph 'oo'
Today we can make a list with the same digraph
Can you write a list of the words - moon, zoom, boom
You can write this in your workbook?
To extend this activity you could also do another list using the diagraph 'oa' from Monday - boat, goat, toad
If you have mastered writing words now have a go at writing a sentence
They can zoom to the moon.
What does your sentence need? Remember the high 5 rule
Capital letter, finger space, sound it out, full stop, read it back
Finally draw a picture of yourself zooming to the moon
To extend this activity you could also write some more sentences using 'oo' and 'oa'- she is at the zoo, we go in the boat, I like to see the moon
Below are some extra phonic resources to practice. We have learnt so far in school

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
I know that some children have already created Rainbows at home to put in windows and make passers by smile!
Can you find out how a rainbow forms? Ask your gown up if you can research this together.
What colours make a rainbow? Here are some more creative ideas to spark your imagination.
Below is a link for an experiment to make you own REAL rainbow using water! Can you have a go?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm9ZkYTnCNE&t=3s
If you make a rainbow we would LOVE to see it! Can you share a picture with us on Twitter?

TUESDAY - 25.3.20
We hope that you were able to access all of the learning resources yesterday and had some fun with the activities!
Phonics (Letters and sounds we are learning) -
If you follow the link to 'phonics play' and use the following log in details you will be able to access the full site free of charge:
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/index.htm
Username: march20
Password: home
Once on the site you can select 'phase 3' and have a go at recapping phase 2 and set 6,7, 8 and 9 of phase 3 on 'Flash cards'.
If you find your child is not recognising some of the letters/sounds you can spend some more time focusing on them.
- You could cut out some of the flash cards provided in your home learning pack to make a sound hunt around the house.
- You can select the letters that they need to practice on the games 'Obb and Bob' and 'Buried Treasure' where they can practice reading words that feature the specific sounds.
- You could use the flash cards in the home learning pack to build some words.
Today we will focus on the diagraph 'oo'. You can use 'Geraldine Giraffe' videos on youtube to help introduce this sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfMKV_9agiY
Have a go at reading some 'oo' words on the games 'Obb and Bob' or 'Buried Treasure' on the phonics play site.
Now can you have a go at writing your own 'oo' words? (soon, moon, loop) Maybe you could draw some pictures to match!
Find the 'sentences' game on the phase 3 page of phonics play and select 'oo' - Have a go at reading the sentences. Can you hide them and have a go at writing them yourself? Don't forget to use finger spaces between your words, capital letters at the beginning of your sentence and a full stop at the end!
Maths -
Addition
Below you will see a 'part, part, whole' model. In reception we have used these to solve addition problems and find a total! Can you draw a 'part part whole' frame and use it to to solve some problems with things around the house? (once again this can be absolutely anything! Pasta, sweets, small toys)
Take it in turns with someone in your family to make a problem by putting some objects in each of the 'part' sections. Can they show you how many there are altogether by writing the total in the 'whole' section?
Can you record/write your addition as a sum? (for example, 4+2=6)
Expressive Art and Design/PSE:
When people can't go to school and work, sometimes they start to feel a bit sad. To cheer people up, people all over the country have been making rainbows and putting them in their window. If you have a rainbow in your window it might make someone smile when they go past!
Could you have a go at making a rainbow? You can do it however you like! You could even write a message on their too! Here are some ideas:
If you make a rainbow we would LOVE to see it! Can you share a picture with us on Twitter?
Story time:
Time to get cosy for a story! You can read one of your books at home with your grown ups or family.
Can you talk about who the characters are? Where is the story set? How are the characters feeling?
Below is a story all about Spring for you to enjoy too. Maybe you will notice some features of spring in the illustrations?

Finally have a go at writing a sentence featuring some 'oa' words and some tricky words (The goat was in her boat, My toad is in his road) Maybe you can think of some more!
Maths -
Addition
In reception we LOVE the adding with a pirate song! You will find this video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT_wvvEvkw4
After following the video and problem solving with the pirate maybe you could do some addition around the house! You can use anything to add two groups together and find the total! (apples and bananas...spoons and forks...different coloured socks!) It is even more exciting if you can get outside and find natural objects to add together!
Can you to try to write down your addition sum? (For example, 3 apples and 7 bananas would look like 3+7=10)
Science/Knowledge and Understanding of the World:
Friday was the first day of Spring! Can you go on a Spring hunt in the garden or on your street?
What signs of spring can you see?
Can you make your own 'Spring Checklist'? (see picture for ideas)
Maybe you could take some pictures of flowers you see and try to find out what they are called?
Could you draw some pictures of what you have seen?
Could you label your pictures?
Could you write some sentences about spring (I have seen ...)
The government have advised you can go for a walk outdoors if you stay more than 2 metres from others. Please make sure you follow these precautions.
Wind down/story time/songs:
Can you snuggle up and read a story to your mouse or another toy? Below is the story 'Where the Wild Things are' that we recently learnt at school ... maybe you could listen to it and then have a go at re-telling it to your family?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0e60UOHskk
Parents/carers,
Remember these are suggestions of what to do at home, feel free to explore the resources we have provided at your own pace and take lots of breaks.
You are doing a wonderful job!
