Lets explore this wonderful world together.
At Moss Park Infants we seek to inspire a curiosity in their local area and the wider world around them. We will share our own experiences of different countries, climates and cultures, while exploring and learning about new and exciting places in our world. We want our children to be proud of their local community and Moss Park Infants School. We hope to foster an eco-friendly mindset and children who want to make their local area and the wider world around them a safer and better place. Leaving us as mini adventurers who are ready and keen to explore this fascinating planet.
Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. The curriculum is designed to ensure that teaching equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
In geography, EYFS skills are developed through the ”Understanding the World” Area of Learning. The children are given a variety of experiences involving talking about our local environment and observations about the seasons and similarities and differences in places. They visit and read about different places in Britain and are encouraged to explore their local community.
Pupils in Key stage 1 will develop knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality. They should understand basic subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills, including first-hand observation, to enhance their locational awareness. Children will also learn location and place knowledge of hot and cold countries as well as seasonal and daily weather patterns in Britain.
