Autumn 1
Character description - Grandma
Week beginning 11th October
This week in English we have been looking at the character description of Grandma from George's Marvellous Medicine. We have been working in groups to come up with interesting adjectives and similes to describe her. We have thought about what she looks like, smells like and her personality. By the end of the week we have a bank of fantastic adjectives and similes. These will help us next week to write our character descriptions of Grandma.

Pizza Making and Hot Seating as Grandma
Monday 10th October
In the morning we prepared questions to ask George's grandma. Our teacher was first to sit in the hot seat and then we took it in turns to be Grandma ourselves. We worked hard at getting Grandma to tell the truth.
Just before we prepared to question Grandma we made the dough for our Pizzas.
We measured flour, yeast, salt, olive oil and water and put them in the dough machine to make the dough. After 45 minutes the mixture was dough and ready to be made into a pizza base.
We let the dough rise and then in the afternoon we rolled twisted and squashed the dough into a base. We smoothed tomato puree on with a spoon and sprinkled on some cheese. And we took home our pizza to cook with our family.
Soap and Bubbles
Tuesday 4th October 2016
This afternoon as part of our Muck, Mess & Mixtures topic we investigated which soap products would make the best bubbles. We had five kinds of soap, hand wash, baby bubble bath, washing up liquid, soap flakes and non biological laundry powder. Before we began we talked about a fair test and any possible dangers we might encounter, George Kranky having been in the building earlier. Our teacher put a measured amount of soap into each container of lukewarm water. We noticed that the liquids sank and the flakes and powder started to disappear. Most of us predicted that the bubble bath would make the best bubbles!
We each had a straw and took it in turns to make bubbles. None of us wanted to taste the mixture so we were very careful. To make more bubbles we whisked and we squeezed sponges in our mixtures of soaps.
Mrs Iqbal popped in and asked if we had been doing some washing..Our room smelt lovely and it wasn't just the bubble bath that created the best bubbles.

A visit from George...
Tuesday 4th October
Today we had a visit from George Kranky, the boy from George's Marvellous Medicine. It was good luck because we have just started work on character descriptions using George's Marvellous Medicine as our focus text. Before he arrived we prepared some questions that we wanted to ask him in our class. We all gathered in Ms Woodnett's classroom and then he arrived. He even came with a new mixture of Marvellous Medicine which some of us were brave enough to smell...
Week beg. 26. 9. 16
This week in English we have been looking at riddles. We have been reading riddles, solving them, thinking of their features, writing them in groups and independently. We had so much fun solving some super riddles and writing some of our own!

Arcimboldo
23. 9. 16
This week in Topic we have been looking at the artist Arcimboldo. We have been learning about his style of art. He used fruit to make faces. We worked in groups and used real fruit to make our own fruit faces in the style of Arcimboldo.

Eid Al Adha Celebrations
Wednesday 14th September
This afternoon we all celebrated Eid in the classroom. We had an assembly with Mrs Plant this morning and talked about the festival of Eid Al Adha. Then after last playtime we tasted food that our Muslim children had brought in to share with us. Look at our Muslim children dressed in their new Eid clothes. We had a lovely time and would like to thank all those parents and relatives who sent in food.
