This week we have been learning all about sloths. What they like, where they live, what they eat and how long they sleep. In literacy the children have been fantastic at learning the information provided and have been able to chant the information then write up fantastic information pieces about them. Well done everyone!
This week has been busy!
This week we have been looking at subtraction calculations where the children have been learning to take one digit numbers away from each other. We have used objects to do this for example if the calculation was 3 – 2 = we would count 3 teddy bears and take away 2 of them to leave 1 teddy bear.
In Gymnastics we have been looking at different shapes and rolls and the children have been set challenges for example: “Can you roll backwards and then stand up without using your hands?” , “Can you do a teddy bear roll?” “Can you do a pencil roll?” Everyone had a good try at all of them!
In Literacy we have been continuing learning about Sloths and writing information pieces on them.
In Topic we have learn where animals live around the world. And to top it off it is 1W’s turn to look after the Guinea Pigs this week. Lots of cuddles have been had!

CLAWS, PAWS AND WHISKERS
Soft fur, sharp claws and twitching whiskers... What's your favourite animal? One that meows? One that barks? Or maybe one that scurries or slithers?
From pets at home to animals in the zoo, let's find out what animals like to eat and where they like to sleep. Do you know how to look after a rabbit? A cat? or even a snake?
We are looking at all sorts of animals this term and learning about their habitats, what they look like, what they like to eat and how to look after them. We have had a great start to the first term. We have designed and made our own made up animals, we have designed a home for them, we have had Mrs. Plant and Mrs. Butler bring their dogs in to show the children and to talk about how to look after them (which the children loved and had a good pet!) This week we are learning all about big cats and making models and paintings of them.
The past few weeks have been very active in Year 1. We have been looking at various animals from around the world in the wild and also in zoos looking at big cats in particular. This week we have been looking at sloths in both our English and topic work finding out about where they live, what they eat and what they like to do. The children have drawn sloths, designed and made houses for sloths, written sentences on the computers about sloths and made sloth models. The children have loved learning about them.
In maths we have really been concentrating in getting our number formation perfect, sequencing numbers and now we have moved onto addition and writing our own addition calculations. The children have shown great mathematical skill when adding up 2 groups of objects. Well done!
