Autumn 1

Our Wonderful World!

In Autumn 1 we will be diving into the topic 'Our Wonderful World!' A brilliant topic for children to learn about themselves and their new friends as we focus on settling in to a new school and making relationships.

During this topic we will explore the children's own immediate world before extending the learning to the world and environment around us.

We will celebrate our similarities and our differences and how special and unique we all are. The children will have the opportunity to share their 'All about me' bags and introduce themselves to their new teachers and friends. We will talk about family and community.

We will introduce the children to the 'Super Learners' and the expectations in school.

We will be looking at the book 'I like myself' by Karen Beaumont and the songs 'It's Good to be me' and 'What a Wonderful World'.

You can view our Autumn 1 planning here!

What a Wonderful World

We have LOVED learning this song at school!

First week of Reception!

The children have coped brilliantly with their first 3 days of school and have really embraced everything we have asked of them; even if they have been rather tired! We have been particularly pleased with how well the children are managing in the dinner hall and getting themselves organised with their own belongings. They have definitely got more confident as the week progressed!

In the environment, we have been exploring all the workshop areas together and learning to play with our new friends. Outdoors has been very exciting, children were fascinated with the apples falling from the tree and reading in our new cosy hobbit house!

We have also sent home a parent memory of your child’s first day in Reception and we hope that you can use this to talk positively about what your child enjoyed in school. Please can we ask that names are in all clothing, coats and on water bottles. Please note - children will need their book bag (every day) coat and water bottle. Wellies and PE kits will be left in school and be sent home every half term for a wash.

Finally, prior to drop off and dismissal of children, please can we ask if Mrs Peter's parents can line up on the right side and Ms Lavin's class on the left, (distanced) this will enable the staff to dismiss the children much quicker. Thank you so much for your support so far and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange an appointment.

This week in Reception Oak we have had great fun beginning phase 2 phonics.

We are also continuing to practice our phase 1 phonics (orally blending and segmenting) and you can use some of the activities sent home with your reading record to practice this.

We have looked at the letters and sounds 's' 'a' 't' and the tricky words 'I' 'go' 'to 'the' - below are some videos to support this learning at home!
