Today was Victorian Day and children and staff dressed up as chimney sweeps, maids and ma'ams. We spent the afternoon making and playing Victorian games..spinners and hopscotch were our favourites. Many thanks to all those children who dressed up.
Today Thursday 30th we had some very special visitors in school....our Grandparents.
As part of our fact finding about Stretford in the Victorian times and Stretford now, we had to interview our grandparents.
We had prepared some questions about their childhood..
what did you wear?
what was your favourite food?
what was school like and
what games did you play?
We gave our grandparents cakes, biscuits and juice to say thankyou..
A really big thanks to all who came and chatted..And finally your grandchild has brought home a speech bubble for you to fill in regarding the event..please return to your child's teacher..
Moss Park Singathon!!!!
We have had a really enjoyable day completing our Singathon! Everyone had lots of fun and hopefully we have raised lots of money too!
We started the day singing and dancing and the Mayoress visited the school and saw lots of singing taking place too!
1CW then had an opportunity to see rock music being performed with an electric guitar and violin. This was great and had lots of us bobbing around too!
We then completed our 1/2 hour of non stop singing, which took us up to lunchtime.
This afternoon we had a visit from a lady playing a saxophone which was very loud! We followed this up with a string duo of songs for us to dance along to and ended with us learning how to country dance, whilst being accompanied with an accordion.
Brilliant fun but we are all tired now!!!!!
A massive thank you to Owen Little and his team of friends who have helped to arrange so much of the day for us.
And one more reminder - could we have all sponsor money back by Friday 1st July.
Many thanks for your continuing support.
Phil from the Freddie Fit Team visited school today and put us all through our paces.
It was hard work but we really worked up an appetite for our lunch!!
Our first week of the final term is over and all the children have completed the phonics test apart from those few children who were absent. Many huge thanks to you all for practising over the half term, we couldn't do this without your help.
Letters home this weekend included a reminder for grandparents afternoon on Thursday 30th June and an invitation next week to join us for sports afternoon. 1CW are getting sporty with our parents/relatives on Thurday at 2.45pm onwards.
Homework for this week is word problems and please look at our topic for this half term.. The seaside.
Guinea Pigs - Susie and Coco!
This week it is the turn of 1CW to cuddle and care for our school guinea pigs, Susie (the browny gingery one) and Coco (the fluffy long haired one)! We are very excited!
Check back for pictures of us having lots of cuddles this week with our furry friends!!!
For our final day of Family Learning Week a man called Chris visited school to help us make Dens for ourselves....
We split up into mixed classes after our assembly with Ms Cowgill and Chris. 1CW became Green Class for the day..with children from y2 y1 and Reception.
Our first activity in the morning was to design flags for our dens. We then used mini bamboo sticks and plasticine to make a model of our den which we wanted to build outside. Chris explained that building the model would help us think about working together, talking and planning and sharing the equipment. We had to build triangles and join our triangles together. After break we put on our waterproofs and met Chris in the playground. He provided us with large bamboo sticks, plastic ties and pegs. It rained every now and again but we were wrapped up and so very busy we didn't mind but got stuck in and built our den.
Family Learning Week!
This week is Family Learning Week and we have been reading the story, 'Stanley's Stick' by John Hegley. We have been planning adventures for our sticks, such as imagining they are dinosaurs, magic wands, rockets and lots more cool ideas!
Our week is jammed pack full of fun!
Today we had a visit form 'Muddy Feet' and spent an exciting afternoon in the park making clay creatures and building dens for them to hide in!
Thank you to the adults who came to help us.
We have started to make stick wands, by painting and decorating our sticks!
Keep checking back to see what other fun creations we will be making!!!
Creative Stick Day!
Today we have had a lovely day creating with sticks!
We have made stick men, had a go at stick weaving, made stick crowns and stick picture frames! It was great fun and we all enjoyed our stick experimenting.
We watched Stanley's Stick on Cbeebies Bedtime Stories and you can watch it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLrlrQRaKxU
Homework this weekend is to design a poster for our up coming Moss Park Sing-a-thon. We need to collect the posters and pass on those selected to the printers hence we have kept homework logs in school.
Please could we ask that we have another stick and twig hunt this weekend ready for some creative fun during Family Learning Week.
Many thanks for your continued support.
Year 1 were invited to take part in the Multiskills Festival at George Carnall Leisure Centre, Urmston, alongside other schools from Trafford. The event was organised and run by the staff and year 8 pupils from Flixton Girls' School. We travelled to the venue in a fabulous red bus from Travelmaster which the children adored. On arrival we split into groups of fifteen and took part in 8 activities involving balance, coordination and agility. Much enjoyment was had as the children improved their own skills and fitness but also worked well as a team with their friends. Take a look at our slideshow and see the concentration and the laughter on our children's faces. Many thanks also to the parents who accompanied us on the trip.
The topic this term is about trees and plants and how they grow. To find out more about the topic please click on the link below.
By the afternoon we were ready to burn off some energy so dressed in our kits and training gear we set off to our first activity....
Street Dancing with Ms Ella...
Then we had a quick drink and started our mile jog around the playground....
Luckily Mrs Elliot was there to show us the route, to make sure we didn't cut corners but most of all to have good fun together, jogging and walking to raise money for Sport Relief.
Thank you to all our families who donated today at school.
Friday 11th March
To celebrate Mother's Day the children invited a special lady in their life in to school for a tea party. The children served sandwiches, cakes, crisps and biscuits to our visiting adults. We even shared a glass of cordial too.
Many many thanks to all the parents who donated food and drinks and also plates and cups.
A huge well done to the children for making our classroom look so lovely with the bunting. They also made the table cloths in the shape of a kiss, decorated with messages and flowers.
The children had a wonderful afternoon and we would like to thank all the adults who managed to come in and share in the tea party. We are looking forward to the next event.
World Book Day Celebrations.
Thursday March 3rd
On World book day the children thought about children all over the world reading their favourite books. To celebrate we came to school dressed as our favourite book character and brought in our book to share with our friends. We had a parade in the hall and we also designed book covers of our favourite books in our class. This is us dressed up.
When we arrived on Monday morning we were amazed to see an enormous dinosaur footprint in our classroom!
The children have been working very hard to find out about dinosaurs and we have been acting out dinosaur poetry as well as being fantastically creative to make dinosaur skeletons!
This term our topic is all about dinosaurs. To see what the children will be learning about please click onto the document below.
To learn and have fun over the half term we would like you to use the following phonics websites with your children. This will help with their reading, writing and also their phonic skills.
Finally, we are going to hold a phonics presentation meeting for parents in Year 1 at 3pm on Wednesday 24th February 2016. We will explain phonics in Year 1 and go through “Phonics Screening for Year 1” that all pupils throughout the country take in June. We cannot stress how important this meeting is for you and your child.
Have a fun learning break!
Many thanks for your help.
The Year 1 team.
Chinese New Year Dancing
Today we learnt how to dance with Ribbons and Chinese style Umbrellas and even a Dragon. We had a wonderful time but had to really concentrate to get in time with the music. A wonderful celebration to end Chinese New Year and half term. We hope you like our paper dancing monkeys.
Zap and Fizz from Artis
This half term year 1 have worked on performing to music with our two Artis leaders Zap and Fizz. As our topic was Toys the children have pretended to be Push and Pull toys, Robots and Puppets. Zap and Fizz encourage the children to interpret the music from the cd, Zap's violin and collaborative singing. They learn to move alone, in pairs mirroring and sometimes in groups. Here are some photos of the children being puppets or even the puppeteer.
Robot Exhibition Wednesday 10th February
On Wednesday this week all of year 1 gathered in the School Hall with their homemade Robots. The children were joined later by their parents and relatives and we all had a good look at the amazing effort everyone had made.
Some parents and relatives accompanied by their child talked about how they had made the robots and the materials they had used. Towards the end of the Exhibition Mrs Butler, Mrs Plant and Mrs Boyer came to judge the robots. They said it was one of the hardest jobs they had ever done and found it very difficult to choose 3 winning Robots.
It was a busy but wonderful afternoon and we would like to say a huge big THANKYOU to our children and their families for an amazing exhibition.
Internet Safety Day
Tuesday was Internet Safety Day and with the help of Safe Spike we found out about how to keep ourselves safe when we are online and playing on tablets and Ipads. We designed a poster with all of this information and the two posters below were chosen to represent our class and will be displayed in school.
Robot Exhibition Wednesday 10th February 2.30pm.
If you can join us on Wednesday for our robot exhibition we would love to see you. Both 1CW and 1W have been so busy building amazing robots.
We would love you to share how you made your creations and Mrs Butler will be judging to find the top 3 designs!
See you on Wednesday!
Happy Chinese New Year!
Today we have has a great time finding out about The Year of The Monkey and sampling Chinese food such as prawn crackers, spring rolls, noodles and doughnuts!
We enjoyed listening to Chinese music and had a bit of a dance too!
The first month of the new year is nearly done and we have been busy finishing off our work on Teddy Bears. We have been dancing like toys with Artis and really enjoyed working with our two visitors who showed us Brazilian Martial Art Dance moves, called Capoeira.
Look at us listening to the drums and music, copying martial art dance moves, working together and having lots of fun!
The children are all working really hard to develop their phonic skills and apply these to their reading.
The following website is great to help consolidate new phonics skills.
Wednesday 6th January 2016
Favourite Toy Day
Happy New Year to all our parents. We had a wonderful day on Wednesday 6th dressing up as our favourite toy and talking about why it is so special to us. Well done to all the children who spent time writing about what they wanted to tell their friends. Look at us dressed up.
Why is our PS4 better than Grandma’s old toys?
The new topic for Spring 1 is Toys. We will be looking at old and new toys. The homework for the Christmas holidays is for you to find a favourite toy and draw and write about it. So that in the New Year on the 6th of January the children can come in dressed as it.
This term our topic is Light and Dark, please see the attachment for more details.
The Friends of Moss Park Infant School organised a Year 1 disco where the children could dance to their favourite tunes and buys glow sticks and lights to help them get down and boogie! They all had a lovely time. A big thank you to The Friends of Moss Park Infant School for all of your help.
We have been learning all about the book “Owl Babies” in our literacy lessons. We have learnt the story by heart, we have written our own version of “Owl Babies” and we have made our own owl puppets. We have also chanted and performed a Year 1 shadow puppet show for some of our parents which we really enjoyed!
On Wednesday 2nd of December at 2:45pm parents are invited to watch Year 1 present a shadow puppet performance of "The Owl Babies." We hope to see you there!
This week we have been measuring!
At the beginning of the week we weighed with scales and balances. We used our hands to compare objects, talking about heavy, heavier and heaviest or light, lighter, lightest. Today we looked at caterpillars on the IWB and talked about how to measure length. We laughed as the caterpillars moved and grew. We made sure that they were at the start line before we could measure them. We used the words long, longer, longest and short, shorter, shortest. We used cubes to measure how long or tall our objects were and then put them in order.
Year 1 went on a short walk around our local area on Thursday 8th October. We looked at the features of the local area e.g. the park, roads, church, petrol station, houses and street signs. We asked the questions: What materials are houses made from? What shapes are the doors and windows? What other buildings can you see? Can you see any numbers on the houses? We then returned to school and made maps of the area including the features that we saw. We all had a wonderful time. Thank you to all the parents who came along to help us!
We have some useful websites for you to use to help your child practise their phonics. These are free to use and all you have to do is google them.
These websites cover all the phonics phases and key and tricky words in the form of games.
Today we celebrated Eid at Moss Park Infant School with our children and parents. It was a lovely day and the children enjoyed tasting all the delicious food provided. Thank you to all the parents who supported this event.
