Mrs Frances Barry

Chair of the Governing Board

I have spent my whole professional career in primary education.  I am passionate about ensuring that all children receive the best possible education they can.

I have a vast amount of experience in the primary sector.  I have been a teacher for thirty five years and a Head Teacher for the last twenty three years, nineteen of which have been at my present school.

I am currently the Head Teacher of Lever Edge Primary Academy in Bolton.  This is a large two form entry primary school, taking pupils from the age of 2 years old.  The catchment area that the school serves is very diverse, being multi-ethnic and multi-faith.  The school has twice been designated as Outstanding by Ofsted, once in 2007 and once in 2011.

As a National Leader of Education, I work with schools across the region, at the request of Head Teachers, Governors or the Local Authority, providing support and advice.

Over the years I have developed my skills and knowledge of primary education to a high level and I am happy to use these skills for the benefit of the children at Moss Park Primary School.

Angela Chard

Co-opted Governor (Vice-Chair)

I became a parent governor in 2011 when my daughters both attended the infant school. I enjoyed it so much I have chosen to stay on as a governor even though my girls have left the school! (one is now in the Juniors and the other in High School).  I really appreciated all the hard work and effort the teachers put in educating my children that I wanted to give something back.

Whilst my daughters were at the infant school I was an active member of the Friends Group which helps to raise additional funds for the school. I still come into school once a week to hear some children read, which I love.

I work part-time as a legal secretary and enjoy playing netball once a week.

Mrs Natalie Knight

Parent Governor

I am the mother of two children; a daughter who is in Year 2 at Moss Park Infants School and a younger son who will hopefully be attending the school soon. Over the last few years, I have played an active role in the school, volunteering to be involved in school life in different ways.

In my professional life, I have been a public servant for nearly 19 years; undertaking various roles. The last 10 years I have been in senior leadership positions. I therefore have a broad range of skills and experiences on which to draw upon. These include; experience of managing and leading large groups of staff who are both directly and non-directly employed; strategic leadership; the management of senior managers to deliver the strategy; management of large budgets; management of personnel matters and oversight of the delivery by other managers within this field; delivery of performance management targets and drafting and delivering service level agreements; Union engagement; staff development and wellbeing delivery; and partnership working both within the workplace and also with other external agencies, partners or local authorities. This list is not exhaustive and only covers some aspects of my leadership and management skills and responsibilities.

I have dedicated my career to public service, because I truly want to make a difference to the lives of other people. One of the most rewarding periods of my job were the years spent working with young people. I thoroughly enjoyed this work and by doing this, have gained a good understanding of child safeguarding procedures and legislation.

Mrs Dawn Hawker

Co-opted Governor

I have been a Governor at Moss Park Infant School since 2003 during a spell of recuperation and came to listen to the children read and got voted onto the Governing body.  I have also spent my time on the Friends of Moss Park Infant School Group raising funds for the extras for the school.  I have been in various roles within the Governing body and have enjoyed every one of them.

I have really enjoyed my time at the school in every capacity but most of all I enjoy seeing the children enjoy themselves when they do activities in the school whether it be at the Fete or Christmas Nativity or an assembly.

I have lived in Manchester for the last 25 years although I have travelled to various counties with my husband in his career.

My background comes from a PA and Legal aspect and I am a dedicated member of the Royal British Legion and support families in difficulty.

Mr Matthew Gingell

Co-opted Governor

I work as a Senior Solution Engineer for a large American software company. In my spare time (what little there is) I enjoy sports, going out with my family and socialising. I coach rugby union at a local club to combine giving something back to the community and my love of the game. Both of my children attended Moss Park Infant School. Whilst they have long since left its a real privilege to be involved with the school that gave them such a great start in education.

Vacancies

Due to a recent resignation there is currently a vacancy for a Co-opted Governor.  We are looking for somebody who has strong experience in Human Resources and/or Finance.  If you are interested in being considered for this position please contact Mrs Jenny Latham, Office Manager on 0161 864 3636.

Why do schools need Governors?

Schools need more enthusiastic and committed people to step forward as governors. It is an opportunity to have your voice heard and to influence education for the children in your area.

Could you be a Governor?

Being a governor is not difficult but you do need to be committed and interested in doing what is best for the next generation. If you care enough about the children in your community to invest some of your time in their future, get involved as a governor.

What do Governors do?

The governors are responsible for making sure the school provides a good quality education. They set the school aims and policies together with the Headteacher. The Headteacher is responsible for day to day management, but he or she is chosen by the governors and works closely with them.
